In a recent article on the Greater Memphis Chamber, Memphis, Tennessee has been ranked 3rd for most hiring in 2011 among the Top 50 Largest MSA’s in the United States. This is according to a survey released by Gallup on Thursday, March 29, 2012. Hiring among Memphis employers increased by 38%. The top-three metro cities include: Houston, Texas, San Antonio, Texas, and Memphis, TN according to the Gallup Job Creation Index.
The Brookings Institute ranked Memphis MSA 3rd in the United States for job growth during the 4th quarter of 2011. The Greater Memphis Chamber Economic Development Team, including Shelby County, Tennessee Valley Authority, Memphis Light, Gas & Water, the City of Memphis, and the Tennessee Department of Economic & Community Development, secured over $1.1 Billion Dollars in new capital investment commitments and the commitment of 3700 new jobs in Memphis and Shelby County.
John W Moore, President & CEO of the Greater Memphis Chamber, states that 2011 was a “record-breaking year for economic development and growth in Memphis and Shelby County” Further, 30 projects are currently in the pipeline and the chamber is focusing on “keeping Memphis and Shelby County in the forefront for creating jobs and growing our economy.“
With the arrival of Electrolux over the next 3 years- bringing 1,000 – 1,400 jobs, as well as other projects pending, Memphis is a focal point in the U.S. for job creation. The city’s steady core of established companies in multiple industries, as well as expansion into other segments, makes Memphis one of the best markets for jobs.
